Saint Ali x [Edwin Tanner Redux\
A word from Saint Ali…
“I dare to reimagine Edwin Tanner's 1977 masterpiece, "A Horse, A Horse, My Kingdom for a Horse," reflecting the pulse of our times. Where Tanner used a mechanised horse's head to express existential unease, I've replaced it with modern workhorses – robots. It's my audacious tribute to the original yet an enticing turn of direction that echoes today's tech-dominant world.
Tanner's genius lies in his alluring wit and philosophical depth; his art, an intriguing blend of isolation, existential questioning, and literary allusions, stood distinct from contemporary Australian art currents.
His haunting rendition of a horse carcass morphed into a mechanical head floating in an infinite blue ocean, with a carrion bird perched atop, served as a potent symbol of human vanity, the fleeting nature of empires, and perhaps even the futility of art. This visual metaphor is poignantly relevant today as we navigate a world where artificial intelligence reigns supreme. In this reimagination, I invite you to delve into a new narrative steeped in the present yet inextricably linked to the past.”
